Tips for Recycling at Home

Tips for Recylcing at Home

We all know of the benefits of recycling, but many have yet to implement home recycling systems. However, recycling at home is an affordable way to make both a local and worldwide difference, and demands very little of your time. To help those considering effecting recycling systems at home, we have compiled a list of quick tips to help you make a difference.

1. Call your local recycling center to determine what types of materials they accept, whether they do curbside pick-up, and whether they provide recycling bins.

2. If your local recycling center does not provide recycling bins, purchase bins to match the number of material types that you will recycle.

3. Label your bins accordingly to facilitate recycling.

4. Place the recycling bins in an area that is easily accessible to you.

5. Rinse, crush, and/or deconstruct items when it is appropriate to do so.

6. Sort items and place them in the appropriate bins.

7. If you have curbside pick up, remember to put the bins out at the appropriate times.

Remember that, although recycling is important, it is only one part of an eco-friendly lifestyle. Be sure to reduce the amount of materials you use, purchase products packaged in materials that contain the highest percentage of post-consumer recycled content, and reuse whatever materials you can.
