Marshmallow Cough Syrup
Marshmallow root's natural mucilage coats and soothes an irritated throat — this syrup captures that soothing quality in a spoonful.
What you'll need
- 2 tbsp dried marshmallow root
- 2 cups cold water
- 1 cup honey
Steps
- Soak marshmallow root in cold water for several hours to draw out mucilage.
- Strain, then gently warm the liquid and stir in honey.
- Take 1 tsp as needed for a cough.
Important: Cold-water infusion (not boiling) preserves the mucilage best — heat breaks it down. Never give honey to children under 12 months.
