DIY Herbal Steam Wrap for Sore Muscles

A warm herbal compress is an easy, low-cost way to ease tight shoulders or a sore lower back after a long day in the garden — built from dried herbs you likely already have.

What you'll need

Steps

  1. Combine the chamomile, lavender, and sea salt in the cloth or muslin bag; tie it closed.
  2. Submerge the bag in hot water for two minutes, then lift it out and let it cool slightly.
  3. Press the warm bag gently against the sore area for 10–15 minutes, reheating briefly if it cools.
  4. Rest afterward — herbal heat therapy works best paired with stillness, not a return to activity.
Tip: Always test the wrap against your inner wrist before applying — it should feel warm, never hot.
