Silver Polish (Salt & Foil Bath)
A salt-based variation on the foil bath — the same ion-exchange trick, using table salt instead of baking soda for pieces with heavier tarnish.
What you'll need
- A sheet of aluminum foil
- 1 quart hot water
- 1 tbsp salt
Steps
- Line a bowl with foil, shiny side up.
- Dissolve salt in hot water and pour into the bowl.
- Submerge the silver so it touches the foil and let sit 10 minutes.
- Rinse and buff dry.
Tip: For very heavy tarnish, repeat with a fresh sheet of foil — used foil loses effectiveness quickly.
