Tailor's Crease Remover

A vinegar-steam trick tailors use to soften a stubborn hemline or old crease before re-pressing a garment along a new line.

What you'll need

Steps

  1. Dampen the pressing cloth with the vinegar-water mixture, wringing out any excess.
  2. Lay the cloth over the old crease line on the fabric.
  3. Press with a warm iron over the cloth, letting the steam and vinegar relax the fibers.
  4. Remove the cloth and re-press the garment along the desired new line while the fabric is still warm.
Tip: Old, deeply set creases may need two passes — don't force the fabric flat on the first try.
