Velvet Scrub
Velvet crushes and stains easily, and standard washing can flatten the nap permanently. This dry-brush method lifts dust and light marks without wetting the pile.
What you'll need
- A soft-bristled clothing brush
- A clean, dry cloth
- Steam (from a kettle or garment steamer)
Steps
- Brush the velvet gently in the direction of the nap to lift dust and surface debris.
- Hold the fabric a few inches from a source of steam (never touching it directly) to relax crushed areas.
- While still slightly damp from the steam, brush again in one direction to restore the pile.
- Let it air dry fully before wearing or storing.
Tip: Never press an iron directly onto velvet — even on the lowest setting, direct heat and pressure will permanently flatten the pile.
